So…is this a police state now?

A 21 year old student was tasered at a John Kerry speaking engagement yesterday at the University of Florida. The student, Andrew Meyer, was asking Senator Kerry some questions when the police stepped in and tried to cut him off. In the video, you can hear Kerry saying he’ll answer the student, but the police drag him away and eventually “tase” him while he is on the ground.

Granted, the kid used up his allotted time for his question and his microphone was then cut off, but was that a cause to drag him away? He was charged with resisting …

That’s the politics, baby…

So, the indictment against Morgan County Judge Executive Tim Conley has been dropped due to some shoddy handling of the case by the prosecutor. From what I’d read and heard about the case, it seemed like there was at least SOME sort of violation of the law that took place, however minor it may have been, and for the Republicans to try and justify what they did by saying, “Well, the Democrats have been doing it for years!” is not exactly an ideal way to say, “I’m innocent.”

Don’t misunderstand. I’m not at all saying that I wished for Judge …

North Dakota Blizzard story from the LVC…

this loyal reader of the Licking Valley Courier couldn’t help but notice a story that had been submitted to last week’s paper, regarding the government’s response to a huge blizzard in North Dakota and comparing it to the tragedy in New Orleans that resulted from Hurricane Katrina.

my response to reading the story was that 1) i got pis*ed…as did my wife when SHE read it… and 2) i figured there was about a 99.99% chance that the “facts” weren’t facts at all, but instead was one of these annoying emails that we all get from people who don’t bother …

What is wrong with the kids today?

you know, i never thought i’d ever speak that phrase…and i certainly never expected i’d be talking about “those crazy kids”…but here i am.

listen…i’m not old, at least not what i call old…i’m 35, so i’m not young either. however, i’m still young enough that i like new and exciting music, i know how to operate a computer and listen to an ipod…but i also know how to draw water from a well.

generation X…that is what we are labeled…those around my age. growing up, i really thought my generation was going to be able to make some changes …

Ruby’s gets it right…

in this day and age (there i go sounding like an old fogey again…consarnit!!)…it is hard to find anyone who really stands up for what they believe in…and if i hear one more person using the song “You’ve got to stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything” in order to to somehow prove to us all just how much gumption they have, i may throw up…it has become about as predictable as using “God bless the USA”, by Lee Greenwood…another song that should be immediately retired.

no…i’m talking about real, stand-up folks who don’t care about public perception or …

introducing the kings of leon…

if this song, and this video, doesn’t kick your BUTT, you may need to check your pulse!

i’ve made it my personal mission to bring as many fans as i possibly can into the Kings of Leon camp. folks, there are only a handful of bands left out there today that are making real, GENUINE, rock and roll music, and this is most certainly one of them.

my discovery of the Kings of Leon came about when i went searching for the name of the song used in that funky Volkswagen commercial where the guy and the girl go out …

School Daze…

well, it seems that you can’t go a day anymore around here without hearing something about the schools. should the kids stay in wrigley? should they go to WLES? should WLES even be OPEN?

personally, i’m at a loss for why the school board insists on moving the students who are currently housed in wrigley over to the wells hill school while the new “central” school is being built. why not just keep them where they are? is there some issue i’m missing here on why it couldn’t be done that way?

as with all things, i’m sure it comes …
