Topix is NOT my creation…

It came to my attention this morning that some folks around town seem to think that I have something to do with the Topix site.  (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can see it in all its glory here: http://www.topix.com/city/west-liberty-ky ).

I just want to make it clear to everyone that I have NOTHING to do with anything on that site.  I have posted a couple of times in order to advertise THIS web site, and I have to admit that every once in a while I visit to just look at the train wreck of crap that people post on there, both for here and for other area cities, but outside of that, I have NO affiliation with them whatsoever.

I do use a news feed from there in order to pull local news on to this site, but that news comes other sources.  Topix just aggregates the news in to one site, and I pull it from there.

The Morgan Minute was created by me, David Campbell.  I use the nickname “admin” on this site, but I thought it was pretty common knowledge by most folks who I was by now.

THIS is the site I want my name affiliated with, and I want it to be clear to EVERYONE that I had not ONE single thing to do with creating Topix.  Topix is a company based in California, and there are thousands of cities represented on the site.  I guess I should be flattered that anyone thought I created a site of such size, and I’d LOVE to have the revenue stream they’ve got, I’m sure, but alas…nope…not me. 🙂

So please…could everyone spread the word?  The Topix forums are pretty nasty, not just for West Liberty but for other cities, too, and I don’t want to wake up with a brick going through my window or a flaming bag of poo on my porch.  Thanks.

    Topix is a wretched site. The Terms of Service clearly states NOT to use someone’s name without their permission but that is basically all you see. So I had to stop even looking at it months ago because it made me so angry that people could say some of the things they say. I truly hope you keep this site on real topics. I do believe in freedom of speech however, there is a difference in that and defamation of character.

    Well I mistakenly went and looked at the WL topix site, lol. Dave, you will be fighting a losing battle in that place. Believe me, I have tried in the past to speak (well type) civil comments on topics worth discussing. There are always those who will say something completely uneducated and ignorant because they can hide behind a computer screen and want to do nothing but argue. So I made the decision to just never look at it again. It has been a couple of months and then temptation gave in today, lol. All I can say is puh-thetic! It is nothing but trash. Thank you for a site that people can come to and talk real issues, make complaints of real issues or just have fun with the games, videos and music. I will tell all my Morgan Co, KY friends about this site.

    Yeah…I mistakenly allowed myself to get pulled into the mess…yikes.

    I’ll just focus on improving this site…the knuckleheads can have Topix.

    Thanks for the kind words and the publicity, Kathy! along those lines, now that you’ve been checking things out, do you have any suggestions for the Morgan Minute? Are there any features you’d like to see added, or others you’d like to see expanded?

    I know one of the main things I could do would be to post things more regularly, but I’m working on it…really!

    Dave…I have been to and read some of the stuff on the Topix website and I think it is a complete waste of resources and time. I agree with Kathy…I think most on Topix is uneducated and ignorant and use it as a place to stir up controversy…while they hide behind their computer screens. I haven’t read anything worth reading on it yet. Keep up the good work on this site and I still have it set as my homepage…:)

    I just felt like I needed to clear up the ties between the 2 sites. I just had NO idea that anyone around thought that I’d somehow had something to do with creating Topix.

    I guess though you hear it from one person that “Dave Campbell started a site about Morgan County and West Liberty, but I can’t remember what it is called”…and then you hear from someone else, “Have you been to that Topix site for West Liberty?”…you put the 2 together and think that they MUST be talking about the same site.

    Topix has some good purposes, but those forums for these small towns…not just West Liberty…are getting pretty rough.
