The lies about Oil…

I don’t have to tell any of you that we have a tremendously important election approaching us this November. The media just LIVES for this event and the amount of press it will receive between now and then will probably make every single one of us sick. In just a few short months, we will go to the polls, possibly in huge numbers, to elect our new President of these here United States.

There are any number of things to consider this Fall when you cast your vote. I’m sure you all have your own criteria for selecting your man or woman for the job. I don’t think there’s any room to doubt which side of the aisle I fall on. My ranting and raving on here is almost always leaning towards the left, even though they do let me down quite a bit these days, as well.

To me, it does not really matter if Obama or Clinton wins the Democratic nomination. I will walk the party line and vote for either of them. Yes, I know Obama went to a church where some pretty radical things have been said…yes, I know that apparently he forgot once to put his hand over his heart while saying the Pledge of Allegiance…yes, I know he’s black…and YES…I know she has flip-flopped on issues…and yes, I know she is a woman…but I also know that this country is in one hell of a mess right now, and it can all be laid squarely at the feet of the Republicans and George W. Bush.

So…whatever criteria you need to form your opinion, I would at least hope you’ll consider this one…

Oil.

And very closely related are gas, ethanol, and food. Prices for gas and diesel are higher than they have ever been, and oil prices set new records every time you turn around. Not to be outdone, food prices are skyrocketing, as well. All of this is happening and is taking more and more money out of YOUR pockets, but nothing is happening to put more money back in.

Please…just consider this mess for a few minutes…

Oil prices have always been on the rise. They go up, they go down…but of course, over time, they will always trend up as long as our demand continues.

But what the hell is going on to cause oil prices to go UP, even though demand is going DOWN??

Gas prices are also on the rise. We’re being told that demand is outstripping supply, and that we currently have a supply shortage. Really?

Gas reserves are actually at their highest since the early 1990’s, and the supply has increased since October of last year.

And what about our savior, ethanol? Ethanol seemed like a good choice at first. With rising gas prices, it became economically viable to produce ethanol in larger amounts. Also, all us tree-hugging-liberal-hippies have been going on and on about saving the environment, so what better way to throw us a bone than to promote clean, green, ethanol??

Well, if the idiot Republicans had actually been listening, they would have known that not only did most of us “green” people think it was not a good idea to become more reliant on ethanol, it is a downright BAD idea. Republicans saw it as a way to easily jump aboard the eco-bandwagon.

So…let’s move our energy policy away from a non-renewable resource that is largely produced in areas where folks just don’t like us very much, to a renewable resource that is largely dependent upon such easily predictable factors such as weather…sounds GREAT! Add to that mess that they are trying to turn one of our major FOOD sources into one of our major FUEL sources, and it is pretty easy to see how F’d up this is going to become, and is becoming already.

Food prices are skyrocketing right now, but it is not just because of the increasing prices of gas and diesel. The price of corn has gone through the roof due to the large strain being placed on the supply. This strain on corn supply has increased the price of of animal feed, which increases the price of all of those animal products…eggs, milk, cheese, chicken, beef, pork…right on down the line.

So, not only does it cost you more to get to the store, but you are out more money when you get there.

We won’t go into all of the other issues just yet. Instead, I want everyone to focus on this oil issue and think really hard about how big of a mess we are in, and how it is being fed by Big Business and Big Republicans.

    It is so strange to me everyone is so concerned about the price of gas and speek little about all the taxes that are being levyed on us by our city and county officiales . When you receive your paycheck look at all that is taken out , then figure out how much gas that would have bought . Don’t it make you want to give more to the great cause , just look around . That is what some of our citizens said when they were putting on the tax , raise it higher . Do they think we are blind , when someone says they want higher taxes . Do you not think that they might not be gaining something from this personally ? Wake up , attend these meetings , ask where your money is being spent . Don’t just listen to a bunch of bull , ask to see the records . Don’t let them blame it on someone else , they have been there for five years now , tell them to quit pointing fingers and take responsibility for there actions . Vote, Vote , Vote !!!!!!!!

This is some words from the man who formed this country , don’t you think it’s about time we started thinking of our conduct instead of our-selves . Speak up and let your voices be heard . Don’t take everything little minds puts on you , let them know you will not stand for their lack of self discipline . Waste not , want not ! This business of fireing one employee and hiring two does not work , our little county budget can not stand such extravagance . Go to the fiscial court meetings and tell the court that we are not Fayette Co. or Morehead for that matter . Where’s the beef ! Conley has three secretaries where Stewart had one . He has two women on the water board where Stewart had one . We have more people on the county payroll than the state maintenance . Then he cries woe is me . Tell them we are going to stand for them playing politics with our hard earned money . Vote , Vote , Please Vote . Thank You !

    DAVE!!! Are you SERIOUS? Blaming republicans for ethanol? Man! Now that takes guts—plus a serious suspension of disbelief.

    But…before I even start to dispute this (why waste my time if no one really believes it?) is there A SINGLE PERSON ON THIS PLANET who thinks that the “republicans” are primarily responsible for this silliness of the biofuel mess?

    Anyone? Yes, Dave, this includes you. Are you just pulling my leg…or do you really believe this?

    dhunley…i AM serious…but i did not lay the entire blame for this ethanol mess at the feet of the Republicans…

    if you’ll notice, i said that the folks who actually have some level of intelligence, which anymore seems to exclude members of BOTH parties, were saying that ethanol was NOT the solution…that the environmental impact of growing enough corn to support ethanol as a biofuel could be worse than just continuing to depend on foreign oil.

    BUT…Bush has been a BIG proponent of biofuels and ethanol, and many of his Republican friends have followed right along in line, much to the delight of certain Democrats who just don’t know any better.

    Like i’ve said before…and i’m sure i’ll say again…in regards to these parties…

    it is like a Democrat jumps up in the Congress and says,

    “I have a really BAD idea!!”

    and a Republican jumps up behind him and says,

    “…and I can make it even WORSE!!”.

    So sorry to here about the loss of a mother and son at Cannel City . What a tragedy . They are in Gods hands now . Nothing like the love of a mother . God bless the family .

    I simply don’t know where to begin with this…there sure isn’t enough time to right now.

    Essentially, this post is a perfect example of the left’s tendency to create a problem, blame someone else for it, then offer a solution that means ever more control over our lives.

    The left is built upon and immersed in this kind of deception, denial, and irrationality.

    Dave, it’s depressing to see that an intelligent man is willing to “walk the party line” even though that party has candidates who are liars and racists. Now you can try to suggest racism on our part with that “Yes…I know he’s black!” or that we’re sexists with that“Yes…I know she’s a woman.”

    But the truth of the matter is, Obama is either stupid or a racist—simple as that. I can only imagine the outrage you’d be expressing if McCain had been a member of a church for 20 years with a pastor who had said things like Rev. Wright has said—had been married by him…had his children christened by him.

    And Hillary is a liar—simple as that. It’s not a flip-flop when you say something—repeatedly—that you know isn’t true. Hillary is a habitual liar. And we’re not even touching on her Chinese money connection or her very, VERY lucrative stock market deals.

    I know you’ve had problems with “lying” in the past—not the least of which seems to be understanding what a lie really is (lol…sorry Dave, couldn’t resist that). But all of a sudden you’re now willing to walk the party line and deny that she lies shows a bias that is beyond logic.

    Let’s get this straight…you can “imply” that I am a racists or sexists if I don’t vote for your candidate—-but you CANNOT deny that your candidates ARE racists and liars.

    As for the whole “oil” thing? People on the right have been trying for years to tell you what’s really going on with oil and energy. People on your aisle have blocked ANY and EVERY legitimate effort to ease our dependency on foreign oil.

    You guys have blocked exploration for more oil; you guys have blocked the building of more refineries; blocked the building of nuclear power facilities; resisted the mining of more coal; people on YOUR side have even blocked the building of windmills if it might affect their view from their yachts (Ted Kennedy).

    And you guys have forever been whining about our “shrinking oil reserves” and NOW you want to blame us for the high price of gas AND claim there is an abundance of oil!!

    MAN!! That’s gall I tell ya…lol

    you just come in here, throwing around statements that don’t line up with anything that’s been said, and then you argue against your own made-up viewpoints…it is an interesting, albeit frustrating, tactic. i’m not even sure at this point if you even read what i have to say…i think you just imagine what it is, and then start carryin’ on…but what else should i expect from a Republican, right? why bother letting TRUTH get in the way of a good discussion?? 🙂

    the fact is that i blamed BOTH parties for this ethanol mess…i have repeatedly blamed BOTH parties for making messes and not knowing how to clean them up…

    and i’m not saying that i have all or any of the answers…

    but see, you aren’t really looking for an answer to the problems…you are just looking for something to complain about…looking for somehow to twist anything that a Democrat says into some wild conspiracy to restrict YOUR freedoms…you want to talk about walking a party line? well sir, just tilt your head slightly towards the ground and take a peek at the tightrope you are on.

    in typical republican fashion, you claim that your party has been trying for years to tell all of us ignorant fokes out here how to solve the oil and energy crisis, yet what you suggest is basically looking for more damned oil! just exactly how does that solve the crisis? it only prolongs it.

    the true problem is that we have to depend on any nonrenewable energy source at all…THAT is the problem we need to be solving…and if we cannot solve THAT one, then we need to figure out every way in the world to make much more efficient use of the ones that we have available to us right now…but, as long as “big oil” is running the government, we won’t be seeing that happen.

    as far as the candidates go, i don’t think either of the democrats are a real “winner”, but are you going to sit there as a good little republican and tell me you like McCain?? i seem to recall back a few months ago you posted on here that you’d rather vote for Hillary than him…so what’s a good Republican to do???

    when you figure it out, i’m sure you will let us all know. 🙂

    The last part there was really my point…how bad ideas seem to follow bad ideas anymore, from both sides of the aisle.

    ethanol solely from corn is a bad idea, and democrats and republicans can share the blame for the current policy towards its production. however, the Republicans saw it as a chance to both appear to be jumping on the green bandwagon AND still keep their big-business friends happy, so that is why i called out the idiot Republicans in the original posting…

    but i also mentioned how most of the folks who truly understood the mess it would cause were totally against it…and those critics were on BOTH sides of the aisle.

    as for walking the party line, nowhere did i say that i didn’t care about one being a proven liar and the other being racist…

    as for being liars, i think we can all agree that if you are a politician, at least a successful one, you are a liar. democrats and republicans. bush…clinton…obama…mccain…all of them…liars. we can blame the system…or the media…or the folks who choose these candidates…maybe it is the fault of all 3…but when someone actually decides to tell the truth, they quickly get labeled a loose cannon… or a nut… or both. (see Ron Paul…or Dennis Kucinich).

    as for obama being a racist, well, that i just don’t agree with you about that, and i’m not even going to go down that road for now.

    this is not about a necessarily walking a party line, i guess…even though that’s the way i originally worded it…it is more about making a vote for change and picking the lesser of 2 evils.

    it is like there are bologna and mayo sandwiches laying out on the table…one of them has been there for 3 days…the other for 4…and the other has been there a week….you are starving, and you have to eat one of them…so which one will you choose??

    for me, the 3 or 4 day old sandwiches, the democrats, represent my best chance of not dying in the hospital from food poisoning….so that’s what i’ll pick.

    just a while back, you did have THIS to say…

    Your original post (which is what I was responding to) said nothing about spreading the blame. I can (and probably will 😉 respond to the rest of this post. But for now, I want to post this link that I think hits the “greens” square on the head. Like the fellow says:

    It’s time reasonable people step in be heard.

    I have the answer to renewable energy . It is dandelions . You can cut them today and in two days you have a brand new crop . You can also make wine out of them . We could have cheap gas and the wine would take the edge off during these hard times .

    Look at all the heavy equipment we have running 24/7 overseas…

    Why I’d bet they consume more fuel in a day then it takes to power both Morgan and Rowan Counties for a week.
