DeLancey Park is named for William DeLancey Walbridge, the president of the Kentucky Block Cannel Coal Company and the Ohio & Kentucky Railway both of which had its main operations centered in Cannel City from 1901-1933. Cannel City takes its name from the cannel coal that was mined here.
DeLancey Park encompasses what was the main business section of Cannel City which included a company commissary or store, the Morgan County National Bank of Cannel City, a train depot, the DeLancey Hotel, and a company house used as an office for the company doctor. The DeLancey Park is dedicated to preserving the historical heritage of Cannel City and the surrounding communities while providing a safe place for community members to enjoy themselves. Several events take place throughout the year and Pickin’ in the Park is hoped to become an annual event.
