Democrats choose PVA candidate

In a special meeting Tuesday, June 26, the Morgan County Democrats invited potential candidates for the vacant PVA spot to stand and present their argument for why they should be chosen to represent the party in a special election this Fall. In what was described as a close vote, Darby Franklin was selected as the candidate.

There’s no confirmation on the Republican candidate as of yet, although sources have suggested that Susan Yeary may represent the party on the ticket.

June city council highlights and other musings…

so, last night, i attended my first city council meeting (you can listen to audio of the meeting here). i have to say, it was indeed an interesting affair. in a lot of ways, it made me think of what it must have been like to witness government in action in ancient Rome. in a lot of ways, i think we really haven’t changed all that much in the many years since citizens came before the Roman Councils, asking for favors and making their voices heard. sadly, it seems like some on the current city council feel the need to …

PODCASTING IS HERE!!

ok folks…i’ve been wanting to do this for a long time, but for various reasons, just hadn’t gotten around to it. well, it is finally here!

thanks to some help from a local technology guru who shall remain anonymous for now, we were able to record last night’s (06/25/2006) City Council meeting. You can listen to it by clicking the little link over there on the right side of the page (on the front page, under the pretty purple graphic-thingie, on the right), where it says Audio. You may have to turn the volume up a bit, and we’ll work …

Judge Conley indicted

after several months wondering if anything was going to come from the investigation into wrong-doings by the county judge executive, tim conley, the grand jury came back with 3 indictments against him this week.

the story can be found on the WKYT website, located here.

there are some interesting comments posted there, both for and against the People’s Choice. not sure how this will come out, but it sure isn’t going to help matters as the county scrambles to put a balanced budget together. what are YOUR thoughts on the matter?…

Payroll tax gets the axe…

in a special meeting of the fiscal court yesterday morning, 5-15-2007, the proposed %1 county payroll tax failed to pass. the motion was made by magistrate frankie spencer, and it found no second amongst the other magistrates. judge tim conley then seconded the motion, and it got a reading. magistrates potter, cantrell, and riggsby all voted “nay”, with only spencer and conley voting in favor.
unless a solution can be found by june 10, county government control will fall into the hands of the State. i’m not sure exactly WHAT the solution might end up being, but it seems like …

Ruby’s gets it right…

in this day and age (there i go sounding like an old fogey again…consarnit!!)…it is hard to find anyone who really stands up for what they believe in…and if i hear one more person using the song “You’ve got to stand for something, or you’ll fall for anything” in order to to somehow prove to us all just how much gumption they have, i may throw up…it has become about as predictable as using “God bless the USA”, by Lee Greenwood…another song that should be immediately retired.

no…i’m talking about real, stand-up folks who don’t care about public perception or …

Lots of happenings…

Well, things sure are hectic around West Liberty and Morgan County right now, but I haven’t really had time to keep up my postings like I should have.

I’ve been really busy with work and getting ready for a wedding, so I haven’t had much time for anything lately, it seems! I still have some big ideas for the web site. Just because you don’t see a lot of activity right now on my part doesn’t mean the wheels have stopped turning…not by a long shot. 🙂

Anyway, just to touch on a few things going on around here right …
