Survive and Advance

How do you spell "defeat"?

Well, the much talked about “Jocks vs Nerds” battle is finally over, so now maybe we can actually talk about some basketball.

Kentucky won what amounted to a road game against the Giovanni’s Big Reds last night, 62-45.  It was an ugly game, featuring poor shooting from both sides, both from behind the arc and at the foul line, but Kentucky never seemed rattled at all.

After falling behind 10-2, UK battled back to take an 11-10 lead and would never trail again, extending the lead to 16 at the half.  They came back out …

Idol Recap: Blah

What our cat looked like after Siobahn's performance.

You know, I realize that American Idol is sort of a silly show that has probably run its course.  I also realize it is probably a bit dorky to get on here each week and give a recap…but…there is still something appealing to me about the concept of a show that gives someone a chance to be a star, who may not otherwise have gotten that opportunity.

In the 9 seasons it has been on the air, I think I’ve only ever owned a CD by 1 contestant, and that was Bo …

Lexington’s Parkette to be featured on FoodTV

Mmmmmmmm.....

To say I like food would be an understatement.  Turns out, I also like TV shows about food, and one of my favorites is “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives”.  The show, staring heart-attack-waiting-to-happen host Guy Fieri, travels around the country looking for the little hole-in-the-wall places that make this country a good place to live.

The show has visited Kentucky at least once before, dropping in on the Smokey Valley Truck Stop up Olive Hill way.  Recently, they were back in the Bluegrass to check out one of Kentucky’s great, great dining stops, the Parkette Drive-In in Lexington.  From the …

And so it is…

Yes, they did.

Today is an historic day.  Today, President Obama signed in to law the health care reform bill.  There is lots to be said about it, but I think the President says it best.  Here is his message today:

I’m writing to you on a great day for America.

This morning, I gathered with members of Congress, my administration, and hardworking volunteers from every part of the country to sign comprehensive health care reform into law. Thanks to the immeasurable efforts of so many, the dream of reform is now a reality.

The bill I just signed puts …

How’s your bracket doing?

This is sort of what mine looks like...

Well, the opening round of the NCAA tournament this year has certainly been one to remember.  There have been some pretty crazy upsets, including the big Northern Iowa win over Kansas.  That game was AMAZING, and I just knew that at the end, Kansas was going to overtake them, even if the refs had to get involved.  However, the game was called pretty fairly there at the end, and the incredible 3-point shot that Northern Iowa hit to seal it will be a highlight for years to come.

Duke continued its difficult …

A quick AI recap for last night…

I didn’t get a chance to do my full post today, so I’ll try and keep it short and sweet, since the show will be starting here soon.  I’ll do better next week…promise.

Who do YOU think is going home tonight?

Overall, I thought it was a pretty rough night for the most part.  I didn’t like Big Mike’s opening…he made a funky song sound like disco.  I also wasn’t a big fan of what Siobahn did to “Paint it Black”, but the judges were in love with it.  Not sure what that was all about.

Tim was Tim…he looks …

The Week at a Glance (3-15-2010)

Anything going on this week?

So I thought I might try and do a little synopsis of some stuff that is coming up this week, so that you could just take a peek and see if anything catches your eye.  I’ll see if I can keep this going every week.  If you have stuff that is going on, send it my way, and I’ll include it in the post.

What a weekend!

Should read..."Boogie's" night

Well, if you are a basketball lover, this was a weekend built for you.  And thanks to Demarcus “Boogie” Cousins, it will be one to remember for a LONG time.

We had our beloved Wildcats in the SEC tournament this weekend, and it turned out to be quite the roller coaster ride.  Starting Friday with a harder-than-it-should-have-been game against Alabama, the weekend was off and running.  After escaping Friday, the match-up with the hated Vols was in line for Saturday.  For most of the game, UK looked to be controlling the game, even if they weren’t dominating …

Don’t forget…Clocks and Cats

Is that NEW time or OLD time?

Daylight savings time started at 2am today, which means you need to set your clocks forward an hour or risk tuning in to the UK game today around halftime.

However, if you are like me and the games make you so nervous that you almost wish it was already over so you could just see the score, that might not be such a bad thing.

And speaking of those Cats, after completely thrashing the UT Volunteers yesterday, UK will battle the Mississippi State Varnadoes at 1pm on ABC today.

It took coming back …

AI and Survivor: Forgettable

Well, I’ll try and keep it short and sweet today on the recaps.

First, let’s start with the one that makes me LESS angry, Survivor.

This episode was sort of a waste from start to finish.  The Heroes again sucked at challenges and lost both a reward challenge and the immunity challenge.  The highlight, if you want to call it that, was probably James injuring his knee in the reward challenge.  It just sort of buckled on him, and even though he said it wasn’t hurting, he wasn’t able to walk on it.  They wrapped it up and he stuck …
