red tape.

redtape

since the tornado hit Morgan County, there have been countless amazing stories that have emerged about just how truly good people can be to one another in a time of need.  and to be fair, I’ve heard far more GOOD tales so far than I have bad ones.

i wanted to share this one, just because it kind of stinks.

first off, let me say that I absolutely know there is a need for regulation and procedure in a time like this.  it is tempting to want to start rolling the ball forward as fast as you can, but unfortunately, …

ATTENTION STORM VICTIMS

Before you begin the process of rebuilding, all property owners must first call City Hall at (606)743-3330 and request a copy of requirements and procedures per the City of West Liberty Planning and Zoning Commission.

In addition, if you are planning to operate out of a temporary structure while your establishment/residence is being rebuilt, you must apply for a permit from the City of West Liberty. All fees have been waived.

The City of West Liberty Planning and Zoning Commission will meet every Monday at 10:00am at the Bank of the Mountains Index Branch until further notice. All meetings are …

Forever changed.

Redcross

As everyone is well aware of by now, our community was hit extremely hard by tornadoes and storms on Friday, March 3. The level of destruction is almost more than most people can comprehend, myself included.  We were fortunate to only sustain limited damage, but so many others, including my mom and sister and many close friends, were not as fortunate.

Relief efforts are well underway, and the outpouring of support to the area has been nothing short of amazing.  However, one of the areas that has been lacking so far is the spread of information, or the spread of …

Rebuilding: Trees

truffula trees

As folks start to recover and rebuild, one of the things so many people will be faced with will be how they work trees back in to their landscape.

I will be collecting info as I can find it and sharing it here, particularly concerning saving trees that you still have, and choosing varieties that might be more tolerant to wind.

Another great article about rebuilding:

Tom Eblen: How does a town rebuild after a tornado? Recovering cities offer advice

Lance Williams: West Liberty knows how to rebuild, history shows

A great article, by one of West Liberty’s own:

Lance Williams: West Liberty knows how to rebuild, history shows I have always been good at remembering my dreams, especially where they took place.

And a good number of my dreams are set in a place I know well: West Liberty.

Bringing it back…

We're not done yet...

We're not done yet...

There has been little to no activity on here for a while, and a special thanks goes out to the folks who have been contributing articles.  I hope to find a few other local folks to add some thoughts now and then, as well.

In the meantime, I’m going to get back in to the swing of posting content on here.

And not just posts that say, “more posts are coming soon.” 😉…

The Bradley’s invade Virginia Beach…and The Cheesecake Factory!

smokehouse burger 2

We just returned from vacation from Virginia Beach.   We had a blast,  lounging on the beach, watching our 3 year old play in the water, helping her build sand castles, and going for the occassional dip or two ourselves.  But, other than soaking up the sun, we made sure we exercised our taste buds to their fullest!  And one of the more enjoyable places we dined was none other than The Cheesecake Factory in downtown Virginia Beach.

Presenting itself as a classic, upscale restaurant, with French and Italian architectural influences, the same look is also represented in their food.  However, …
