Maybe it isn’t so complicated after all…

Perhaps it is easier than all this...

Perhaps it is easier than all this...

For a while now, I’ve suspected that this holiday season could be the beginning of a turning point in seeing our economy start to rebound, and from the sales figures that are starting to come out from this past weekend, that may just be the case.

Now don’t misunderstand me…1 good weekend does not an economic recovery make.

BUT…

It can signal that consumer confidence is on the rise, and that, as much as anything, can help get us going in the right direction again.  In this case, I’m not sure that I’d …

A funny thing happened today…

Captain_America

He can save us all!!

I was sitting in Wendy’s today, and as I sat there, a man dressed in a Captain America costume came in.  He was dressed head to toe…the torso part had the fake muscles and all…he was even carrying the shield…he was wearing a giant backpack…carrying a very large American flag, with 2 smaller flags flying from the top of his backpack.

He came in, sat his stuff down by a table, took off his mask, took part of the costume off, and got himself something to eat.

I thought it was odd, but then i …

Cats in action Friday night

Up in lights...

The UK men’s team will be taking the court tomorrow night at 10:30pm to face the Portland Pilots.

It is a bit of an odd game, to be playing a mid-major (at best) school on THEIR home floor, especially when it is so far from home.  However, with the Maui Invitational tournament coming up just 3 days later, and with Portland being the hometown of UK’s Terrance Jones, it starts to make at least a little bit more sense.  I think.

Portland could be an interesting game, as they like to shoot the 3.  Portland is also …

Enes Kanter ineligible: UK will appeal

churchthumb

This one may take some divine intervention.

Well, you probably have already seen it or heard about it now, but the Turkish big-man, Enes Kanter, has been denied eligibility by the NCAA.  Basically, they ruled that he received a little over $33K above what they considered justifiable expenses.

It gets a bit tricky from here, as UK plans to appeal the ruling, and the appeal will actually be heard by member schools.  There is a slight glimmer of hope that the ruling will be overturned, but most of the folks talking it up online seem to think the chances are …

The People Have Spoken

megaphone

Can you hear me now??

Well, the 2010 general election has come and gone…finally…and the results are in (mostly).

Across the country, folks lined up to make their voices heard, and if you are President Obama, you have to have heard them loud and clear.  In overwhelming fashion, the Republicans took back control of the US House of Representatives from the Democrats.  People are obviously angry that things aren’t really getting any better (although you culd also argue that at least they aren’t getting any WORSE), and the Democratic party bore the brunt of that anger…or as President Obama called …

Vote! so those ads will FINALLY go away!!

dewey_defeats_truman

Well, we are less than a week away from the election now, so let’s do some polling! (scroll on down to the bottom to start voting and skip my ranting) 🙂

I think most of you will agree that this has been about as nasty a campaign on TV as there has been in some time.

On at least one occasion, I saw an entire commercial break filled with nothing but campaign ads…no actual commercials…just attack after attack.  Not only has there been a seemingly endless stream of campaign advertisements, several of them have just been ridiculous.

Jack Conway’s attack …

Bad Weather on the Way

You probably already know it by now, but if not, you should keep an eye on the sky this afternoon.  There is currently a Tornado Watch and Wind Advisory in effect for Morgan County.  So strap down the Jack-o-Lanterns and hang on to the foddershocks…this could get interesting.

Hang on to Toto. The dog. Not the band.…

Corporate Profits ‘Near-Historic’ In Second Quarter, Thanks To Cost-Cutting

The Huffington Post |  William Alden First Posted: 10- 4-10 09:07 AM   |   Updated: 10- 4-10 09:16 AM

…The robust state of corporate profits presents a paradox: companies won’t spend their money until the economy improves, but the economy won’t improve until they spend their money. An increase in hiring, for example, would help drive a recovery. The New York Times reports this “chicken-and-egg” phenomenon, noting that near-zero interest rates have encouraged companies to borrow money and simply hoard it because, as the NYT puts it, “they can.”…
