Some crafts that won’t be at the Festival…

I wanted to list these items here, since the Sorghum Festival has now arrived and folks will be coming from far and wide to look at the arts and crafts available on Main Street.

These items won’t be in a booth (at least not this year), but I think they are amazing, and I just wanted to share them with you all because I am so proud of them.

These are hand-crafted dolls, made by my wife Rebecca.  She has been working on them for some time now, and she has just posted them to ebay to sell.

The HumpDay Review – 9-26-2007

Well, it is that time of the week again.  Time to break down the past week and look forward to the week ahead.  Keep in mind that parts of this features are always meant to be a little light-hearted.  I don’t think we should ever take ourselves too seriously, and so I hope you’ll keep that in mind as you read not only this feature, but many of the stories on our site.

So, with that in mind…let’s see what we’ve got.

Locally…

It was HOT…again…with no rain in sight.  This has been a very hot and dry summer, and …

Wildcats getting some GREAT love…

…and on a NATIONAL scale, no less.  This is a great article in the New York Times today about the Cats.

"When Brooks, 57, arrived at Kentucky in 2003, he said, the sanctions had limited the program to 68 scholarship players, well below the N.C.A.A. threshold of 85. Of those 68, Brooks said, 6 or 7 were former walk-ons, and the talent level was low because the specter of the N.C.A.A. sentence scared off top recruits.

The biggest indictment of the roster he took over, though, may have been that only one player on his first team ran a 40-yard

A funny thing happened…we got ANOTHER week closer to the Sorghum Festival!  Man…I can almost smell (and taste) it now.

The indictment against Judge Tim Conley was dismissed by the prosecutor over some problems relating to the manner in which a special grand jury was seated to hear the facts of the case.  In response, the Judge decided to celebrate by throwing a fish fry for the whole county.  Why do I have a feeling this isn’t the last we’ve heard on this subject?

The Cougars recorded their first football win this season, defeating Magoffin County 28-16.  It …

The Sorghum Festival got a week closer…to me, that’s big news.  Not only does it mean that we’re one week closer to funnel cakes and soup beans and taco salads and…well, all sorts of goodies.  Oh yeah…and sorghum. 🙂

Some students found a threatening note in their locker at the high school, and students were searched the next morning as they arrived.  It is amazing how the times have changed.  Used to be, you might hear a student say to another student, “I’m gonna kill you!”…but you knew it wasn’t serious, or at worst meant there was liable to

September 11, 2001…Do you remember?

Growing up, I can remember adults talking about tragic or triumphant historical events that they had experienced, and how they could remember what they were doing that day…the JFK assassination…the moon landing…and as a kid, I never really thought anything like that would happen in my lifetime. That all changed the day the Space Shuttle Challenger disintegrated 73 seconds after liftoff on January 28, 1986. I was home sick from school that day, and I remember the coverage very clearly.

I also remember even more clearly where I was and what I was doing on September 11, 2001. I was …

IPTV coming to West Liberty…

In a story reported on tvover.net a few days ago, it was reported that Mountain Telephone will be bringing IPTV to its West Liberty customers.  It isn’t clear from the article just when we will be enjoying the features of this new technology, but it could certainly open the doors for some new and exciting features that we haven’t had access to in the past.

It also doesn’t state in the article (and perhaps someone who works with MRTC could add some info?) about how wide an area will have access to the IPTV features.  In theory, anyone who has …

Oprah has spoken…

well folks, whiz on the fire and call the dogs.  the 2008 presidential election is now over, before it even began.

i heard this morning that Oprah will be backing Obama in the election.  with her power, and her audience…the other candidates should be VERY afraid right now.  i’m not sure that there has ever been a time in history where someone outside of the whole political machine has had the power that Oprah now has to influence the outcome of this election.

Oprah is on TV EVERY day, she has a slot on XM radio, she has her own …

MCHS on high alert…

Just got word this that Morgan County High School has a few extra folks around this morning in the form of police officers. a threatening note was found in a locker yesterday afternoon, and students were being searched this morning as they arrived at school.

the rumor is that the note, found in a locker occupied by 2 students, someone suggested the author of the note wants to “blow their f*ckin’ heads off”.

WKYT is covering the story, and we’ll keep you posted if we get any more information.…

The HumpDay Review – 9/5/2007

Well, the middle of the week is here, so it is time to look back on what we’ve seen over the past week and what we have to look forward to in the week ahead.

Tim Conley’s day in court has been postponed, perhaps forever.  Isn’t politics fun boys and girls?

The massive earth moving/leveling work continues on Prestonsburg Street.  Early word is that a new Dollar Store will be built there to replace the one that currently resides in the old County Office building. No word yet on whether they’ll leave that one standing, too, as 4 Dollar
