17 years already??

As you may or may not know, this is the year that the 17-year cicada emerges from its long underground slumber and joins with all of its friends to wreak havoc on our eardrums.

To me, one of the most distinctive sounds of summer is the sounds of the cicadas.  It is soothing…sort of like comfort food for the ears.

However, when this particular brood of cicadas emerges and they all join in and they sound something like this…”EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!”.  Hopefully you’ll get the idea. 🙂

They last emerged in 1991, but I don’t really remember them being particularly loud around …

Here we go again!

Well, there’s still a bit of beating and banging going on, but I figured we’d gotten too complacent in not changing the look and layout of the site for a while, so BOOM…here ya go!

I really did like the last layout we had, but there were just a few issues that kept me from sticking with it. It was very flexible in what it would allow us to do, but I felt like the page could still be better. Sooooooo…..

Take a while to poke around and get familiar with everything. It isn’t that much different from what we …

What’s goin’ on around town?

I figured I might just throw it open to you all, and let you tell ME what’s happening right now.

I’m still curious about the Dairy Cheer situation and what may happen in that building.

And what about the new IGA? Is that still on schedule? Is it going to happen?

Anything exciting you’d like to talk about?

Let’s open it up and talk about it!!…

Why a cheeseburger is so much cheaper than a salad…

This is sort of interesting. I think it is sort of funny how in this country, even though we have an increasing number of folks who are overweight or obese, it is still far cheaper to eat a cheeseburger than it is to have a salad.

Whether it is at the fast food restaurant or in the local grocery store, eating healthy often means spending more money.

This problem gets exaggerated in places like our home, and other places in Eastern Kentucky. It is sort of a “perfect storm” situation, really. Combine a significant population of folks living at near …

Going green…

There was a neat little feature on the Wisconsin State Journal web site, and I wanted to pass it along.

It has some nice tips about some things you can do if you’ve decided to “go green” in your home.

Check it out…

Religion and Politics…a good mix? And some other thoughts.

i originally started off this rant as a response to a comment left by another poster, but then it slowly evolved (oops…evolved OR intelligently designed…gotta be fair and balanced!) into a much longer rant about the state of politics.

when it comes to politics and choosing a president for these United States, i’m sort of curious about why religion should enter into the discussion at all, actually.

wasn’t escaping religious persecution one of the reasons we came to this country in the first place and fought so hard to keep it free?

listen, i’m all for religion.  as i’ve said …

Judge Conley pardoned by Big Ern…

Well, never let it be said that it’s more about what you’ve done than who you know.  Apparently, being a "friend"…(aka, Republican)…of outgoing (and now GONE) Kentucky Governor Ernie "Hey, they did it, too!" Fletcher can have its benefits.  If you’ve been a supporter of Fletcher over the years, and you need a little help, he can make it happen.

Now don’t misunderstand.  It isn’t like Fletcher is the first Governor to play these cards…granting pardons and placing friends in high-ranking positions right before leaving office.  I guess it just smells a little worse this time, considering all of the …

Staph…

What else is there to say, really? Everywhere you turn right now, people are talking about it. It is in our schools. It is in our restaurants. It is on our skin. Schools are being closed down so that they can be cleaned (which makes me wonder…aren’t they being cleaned anyway??). Listen, I’ve done my part not to help create the super bug. If I get sick, I just lay around and whine about it to anybody that will listen, and in a few days, I feel better…no medicine needed. But a combination of doctors being too quick to dish …
