The HumpDay Review – 9-26-2007

Well, it is that time of the week again.  Time to break down the past week and look forward to the week ahead.  Keep in mind that parts of this features are always meant to be a little light-hearted.  I don’t think we should ever take ourselves too seriously, and so I hope you’ll keep that in mind as you read not only this feature, but many of the stories on our site.

So, with that in mind…let’s see what we’ve got.

Locally…

It was HOT…again…with no rain in sight.  This has been a very hot and dry summer, and …

Wildcats getting some GREAT love…

…and on a NATIONAL scale, no less.  This is a great article in the New York Times today about the Cats.

"When Brooks, 57, arrived at Kentucky in 2003, he said, the sanctions had limited the program to 68 scholarship players, well below the N.C.A.A. threshold of 85. Of those 68, Brooks said, 6 or 7 were former walk-ons, and the talent level was low because the specter of the N.C.A.A. sentence scared off top recruits.

The biggest indictment of the roster he took over, though, may have been that only one player on his first team ran a 40-yard

Big football weekend…

Here’s a little football for your Friday…a preview of the UK/Arkansas game this Saturday night by CBS Sports. Remember to tune in to ESPN 2 Saturday night at 6pm and watch the Wildcats. Go BLUE! And GO COUGARS! Let’s keep the winning rolling!

The Cougars recorded their first football win this season, defeating Magoffin County 28-16.  It …

UF student gets taser treatment…

…for asking a question that made people uncomfortable. I’ve posted a couple of versions of the video. The first is from a newscast, which contains edited video of the event. The others are unedited and do contain a word or two of profanity, so just be aware of that if you are watching from work.

Newscast version…(shorter)

Longer, unedited version

The view from another angle, also unedited

So…is this a police state now?

A 21 year old student was tasered at a John Kerry speaking engagement yesterday at the University of Florida. The student, Andrew Meyer, was asking Senator Kerry some questions when the police stepped in and tried to cut him off. In the video, you can hear Kerry saying he’ll answer the student, but the police drag him away and eventually “tase” him while he is on the ground.

Granted, the kid used up his allotted time for his question and his microphone was then cut off, but was that a cause to drag him away? He was charged with resisting …
