Time to update the grid?

This article on CNN.com talks about how our electricity needs will be changing in the future and what we must do to keep pace, especially if we want to shift our focus to renewable energy sources.

Currently, our electric grid is VERY out-of-date, and to carry the electricity from sources such as wind or solar farms, some changes will have to be made, and they won’t come cheap, at least not in the short-term.

So what do you think…is it worth the price tag for a future that is FAR less dependent on non-renewable resources?

A $2 trillion bet on

Topix is NOT my creation…

It came to my attention this morning that some folks around town seem to think that I have something to do with the Topix site.  (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can see it in all its glory here: http://www.topix.com/city/west-liberty-ky ).

I just want to make it clear to everyone that I have NOTHING to do with anything on that site.  I have posted a couple of times in order to advertise THIS web site, and I have to admit that every once in a while I visit to just look at the train wreck of crap …

It is a New Year…

It is the time when lots of us make promises to ourselves about changes we’d like to make over the course of the year…and many of us also fail to follow up on those promises.

As for me, I have a few.  One of my goals for this year involves making some changes to this site.  Nothing overly dramatic…just some improvements.

I’ll be working on that list more over the next few weeks, but I’d love to hear some suggestions from everyone.

What do you like?

What is not so great?

What can we add?

What should we drop?

I’ll …

Questionable emails? The truth is out there.

I received an email today from a gentleman whose opinion I respect.  He emails from time to time, and in this particular case, the email he was forwarding to me appeared that someone had forwarded it along to him, as well.

I get these types of emails from time to time, and I always feel like it is my duty to check it out a bit more closely and find out what is true and what isn’t.  This particular email takes some “quotes” from Barack Obama, from books that he has written, and tries to use them to convey that …

Hypocrisy.

It is almost election time. You know how you can tell?

The ads are on the TV. The signs are on the telephone posts. The candidates are on the buses. And the messages are getting on your nerves.

It doesn’t matter to me who you vote for this year (although I’d hope you would not vote for the McCain/Palin ticket!).

In my opinion, Obama represents the kind of hope and vision that Kennedy must have represented to folks back when he ran. I haven’t seen anyone with this much charisma run for President in my lifetime. Bill Clinton was pretty …

McCain. WOW.

I can’t say I don’t see what McCain was doing by picking this Sarah Palin as his running mate.  Rather than let one side steal the spotlight with all the talk of making history, he decided to pick an historically significant candidate of his own.

However, couldn’t/shouldn’t he have picked someone that people have actually heard of?  Someone who would would have the qualities to run this country, should something happen to McCain.

I look at it this way.  There are 4 people in the running to be President of the USA.  Should anything happen to the President, the Vice …

Offshore drilling the answer?

Think again.

Gas prices suck right now.  I don’t think there’s anyone reading this who could disagree with that statement.  $4/gallon prices are painful, especially for those of us that commute to work every day.  Add into that the rising food costs, and it makes it even harder on everyone to just get by.

The Republicans want to give the OK for more offshore drilling and for drilling in the Arctic.  There’s estimated to be somewhere in the range of 18 billion barrels of oil in offshore reserves that are currently off-limits and possibly up to 12 billion barrels in …

Obama already fighthing the lies…

Well, I’m sure most of you have seen the emails.

Obama won’t say the pledge of allegiance!

Obama is a Muslim!

Obama was sworn in on a Koran!!

What you may not have seen was THE TRUTH. None of those items are true, but nobody sends THAT email around. So, everyone gets the “full of lies” email and spreads the misinformation, scaring the poop out of anyone who will listen.

Well, if you have any doubts, Obama has now set up a web site to contradict all of the rumors (it really is a shame that he has to do …
