Monday Report

It's out there...you just have to dig a little

Well, it is Monday, and that is bad enough.  Throw in a night of restless sleep, and a small amount of it, at that, and you’ve got yourself one great way to start the week! 🙂

But rather than bemoan the fact that is Monday, I decided to post a little good news today…something to help everyone get the week off to a good start.  Only problem is, I couldn’t really find any!!

Don’t get me wrong.  Good news is all around, to some degree.  I’m sure we can all report some items from our personal lives that would qualify as good news.  Having a job in this awful economy, your health, a happy home, you name it…there’s plenty to be happy and thankful for…I certainly won’t argue that.

No, I was searching for a story that would be more far-reaching…something on a national or global scale that would just make everyone feel good about themselves.  However, the items that I found weren’t exactly what I had in mind.

I decided to search on web sites claiming that their sole purpose was to report good news.

One story was about a man swimming in a VERY cold lake below the summit of Mt. Everest, becoming the first to do so.  Great accomplishment? Yes.  Good news?  ah…not so much.  To top it off, part of the reason he was doing it was to bring awareness to the fact that global warming is melting the glaciers on the world’s mountains.  So, it is, in fact, BAD news wrapped INSIDE good news.  Tricky.

Next, I found a site that looked a little more promising.  The Good News Network had lots of links on their home page to stories that seemed promising.  The one I was most interested in was about a Superman comic saving a family’s home from foreclosure.  Now THAT is the kind of thing I was looking for.  So I clicked the link…and was taken to a page indicating that in order to view the story, you have to subscribe to the site for $2/month!  Granted, that isn’t much, but is that where we are now?  Good news is so few and far between that web sites are actually charging people to read it??  WOW!

Well, I don’t have any earth-shattering good news, but I’ll give you what I can…and all for FREE!!

– Temperatures this week will be closer to normal, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80’s and nighttime temps back in the 60’s.  Not cool, by any stretch, but it sure beats mid-90’s and 70’s at night.

– As of right now, it looks like the gas customers in West Liberty are going to continue to receive gas service (VERY good news, if you ask me!).  The PSC SHOULD approve the city’s move to take over the utility, and the claim so far is that the cost won’t be passed on to the customers.  We’ll keep an eye out for that.

– Produce season is in full swing, and the tomatoes sure are good.  Corn too.  And beans.  and cucumbers…and melons…just go get some.

– And I was able to get the Classifieds working, which ended up being broken because of something I’d done…so, post those ads folks!  Now people will actually be able to see them. 🙂

So see?  I guess there IS some good news floating around out there.  Anyone got any more they’d like to share?

I hope the rest of the week went better. I hope the one coming will be even better. We might need to look at the glass as half-full.

For instance, for our left wing friends, more than 90% of Americans are working. Isn’t that an “A” for a school boy like Obama?

And since the media isn’t yammering about the growing gap between the rich and poor like they were when the unemployment rate was about 6%, it must not be growing anymore. Right?

And for our right wing friends, Obama’s approval rating has finally dipped lower than his disapproval rating. Does this, possibly, signal a potential end to the policies that are marching us toward socialism? Perhaps a new congress can reap the benefits of an inherited economy.
And, Pelosi might be draining the swamp after all. Wrangle seems on the way out, and Waters is on the docket. Maybe there are a few Republicans in the hopper. Now, have a great week.

    Well, is this site over?

site still going forward, just couldn’t stop laughing at your obama socialism remark. 😉

seriously though…just hang in there…things have been hectic lately and have derailed the comeback effort, but it is still moving forward, including a possible rethinking of the home page layout and organization of the site.

    really.

I keep checking, but nothing keeps happening. But in the spirit of providing good news; Obama is on track to set another record—in the increase of the number of people in poverty, that is. This:

“Interviews with six demographers who closely track poverty trends found wide consensus that 2009 figures are likely to show a significant rate increase to the range of 14.7 percent to 15 percent.

It would be the highest single-year increase since the government began calculating poverty figures in 1959.”

    And there ya go!

And guess which president was responible for the previous record? Why, good ‘ol Jimmy Carter in 1980!! Who would have imagined?

But perhaps Obama is starting to see the light. It sounded like he was saying what we need is a little “trickle down” going on. He said:

“If we can grow the economy faster and create more jobs, then everybody is swept up into that virtuous cycle.”

Or is this more like “a rising tide raises all boats”?

And his grade might have slipped a little, the unemployment rate is now 9.7%. Still an “A” though.

What say admin? Can we blame the Republicans after the Democrats have had a majority in both houses for something like 4 years and now the presidency for going on 2?

Sure, you and I can. But the question is, will the majority of voters? They’re pretty dumb, ya know. They might start thinking socialism doesn’t work! They might start sayins that something that looks like a socialist, walks like a socialist, talks like a socialist, and runs with a flock of socialists might actually BE a socialist!

The average voter might not have the understanding of “nuance” to tell the difference. You might explain to them the difference.

    Can you?

Sorry to use “Faux” News, but the other networks were too busy explaining to us that buring a flag is okay but burning a koran is just so terrible.

AND explaining to us that a certain mosque that ticks of over 60% of Americans is actually a gesture of friendly outreach from our muslim friends!

I don’t know why Americans are so dumb that they can’t figure out that a spit in the eye is a GOOD THING!

Hey Homer…yeah you, Homer Simpson. You need to see this clip. EVERYONE needs to see this clip.

But maybe you’re right! Maybe Obama isn’t a socialist. Maybe he’s just a wannabe tin-pot dictator like Chavez, or Castro, or…why (suck in your breath gasp) maybe that matinee idol Che.

You might really be Homer Simpson if you don’t do your own research into these guys; Cass Sunstein, Andy Stern, Trumpka, Van Jones, and the rest on those nuts on his blackboard.

If you DO research these guys and can STILL support Obama…well, here’s your donut, Homer.

yep…i got bored of that sarcastic ass about 3 minutes in. i skipped around and watched parts, but it was so predictable, i didn’t really feel like i needed to see it all.

let’s see…talk about obama and the democrats and roll your eyes a lot, raise your voice in a sarcastic manner, use loose comparisons to try and scare people, and try to act like you actually care about anything other than ratings…i’m pretty sure rush limbaugh cornered the market in that years ago, but he’s lost some of his shine, so i guess this is the next best thing.

the method of the Republicans trying to stir emotion by scaring the hell out of people is getting old…but I guess it is easier than telling the truth.

Shoot, you probably believe in trickle-down economics, too. 🙂

    oh…and that’s not Homer…that is Mr. Burns.

  • http://None New Independent

Did you even listen? Watch? Is there ANYTHING in there that you can dispute factually? As the guys says, he uses their own words!

What do you guys on the left do? Stick your fingers in your ears and make noises with your tongue? How can you ignore that?

BTW, you might want to try and correct Sunstein—he’s the one calling you a Homer.

I’ll visit one more time after this weekend, just to see if there is anything of substance you can point to that Glenn Beck has wrong. If not, then, I guess there’s nothing further to discuss.

  • http://None New Independent

Yeah. I figured as much. It’s the same old story with you guys. Unless you can blame someone else for your failures—you got nothing to say. I can only hope enough people see through all your BS in time to get this country back on track.

You’re all losers. Always have been and always will be.

New Independent…I’ve gone back and forth with you a bit on here, and I’ve tried to keep it good natured, but now you’ve had to get all ugly about things…i sort of expected it sooner or later.

i’m not sure what failures you are talking about…last time i checked, there was a Democrat in the White House.

i’m curious as to how you can support a group that has continued to keep the money in the hands of the richest 2% of Americans. somehow, you trick yourself in to believing that the Republicans actually give a rats ass about the middle class (i’m assuming you are middle class…hell, you may be one of the 2%, which would explain a whole lot).

in the 8 years Bush was in office, the gap between the rich and the middle only widened. where’s that trickle down? i didn’t see anything trickling my way. the country slowly sank into a recession/depression under his reign and now we are trying to dig our way out of it.

and is being ‘radical’ always necessarily a BAD thing? some would say Martin Luther King, Jr was a radical…JFK was a radical…FDR was a radical…just because you don’t think and act like everyone else, is that really wrong and scary?

maybe it is scary to folks like you who would apparently like to see things continue to limp along while the rich get richer and the rest of us get left in the dust. you stick with that philosophy…let me know how it works out for you.
